THE SHIP
I have carved this ship to mark time, that is the year 5286 (1992),
the time for our wedding. The first score, year 0, is made on the island
Gotland in Hugreifs county. I have made 278 small holes in the middle of
the ship to mark the year 5282 ( 278 x 19 the 19 year cycle) and then pour
bigger holes in the rear of the ship to make 5286. You see that it an open
ship that is the bords are not fully carved out, that marks that it is
a summer ship. The "crew" on top of the ship mark the days from Midsummer.
The longest day-mark of crew pin marks the day of the wedding 5286 seventh
of Harvest month ( 1992-08-07). This stonecarving is situated at Kåtorp
in Roslagen in Sweden. I intend to do a similar
to carve in the birth of my son, Gustaf Rodulf. He was born in the
year 5288 in Yulemonth 29.
This was the earliest way to mark time. The stonecarving ships are thus a calender. I'm just keeping up with the old sidur (tradition).
