ULL
ULL is the God of Sun. He and Njärd (the Goddess of Earth) are ritually married and unites every year at midsummer. ULL's rays fertilizes the earth, and growth can begin. This statue shows ULL in the role he got after having lost the fight for power against Oden, Asa god. ULL the very higly ranked God of Sun during the Vana period, was degraded to the God of Skiing and Archery during the Asa period. Possibly I will place another statue of Ull behind this, showing him in his original role as the god of the sun.
With ULL comes his ring, that was used for making agreements, his house Ydalir, the Yule- tree valleys and ULL's ship, which is a shield.
Examples of place names that come from ULL are:
Ulleråker, Ulltuna, Ullunda, Ullsjö och Ullin, Ullersvang (in Norway) and Ullevi.
Ullevi is the name of a big sports arena in Gothenburg, on the west coast of Sweden. It is fascinating to think that of every football game there as a cult ritual. According to John Kraft, Swedish leading expert on labyrinths, the places that are named after ULL are situated with a certain distance to places that are named after NJÄRD, the Goddess of Earth, such as Näslunda, Närtuna and Närsta. It is likely that walks in progression have been performed between the ULL and the Njärd places.
